X-Files are files containing reports on unexplained paranormal cases that ended up being stored in the basement of the FBI. They were later found by agent Fox Mulder. Discredited and mocked by the other members of the FBI, Mulder begins to investigate these X-Files, which contain cases of abduction and seem to involve a conspiracy by the American government to hide the existence of extraterrestrial life. The files also contain cases involving reports of ghostly apparitions, the occult and other mysterious cases.
